Sunday February 7, 2010

I am now going into my third week of school. My class load is pretty heavy this semester. I am taking calculus, chemistry, biology, swahili, and men's choir. For the most part I enjoy all of my classes this semester. My professors are good and seem to be very reasonable so far but I think they will still offer me the challenge that I need. My calculus is at 8 a.m. every day which so far hasn't been a problem but I'm worried my lack of sleep may catch up to me and make it difficult to make it to that class.

I am still an RA as well. I really enjoy the job and all that it offers. Sometimes I love the fact that I work where I live because getting to work is never a problem. Other times however, living where I work is not so nice because it's difficult to get away from work. Being an RA has definitely developed a lot of skills that I know will be necessary once I get into the professional realm of life. I'm continually challenged by my boss to look at everything I do and see what I need to do different, what I need to improve on and what I am doing well. So overall the job is definitely a challenging and growing experience for which I am very grateful.

Since joining Men's Choir Spring semester of my freshman year I have continually becoming more in love with music and singing. Last semester I auditioned for a part in an opera and got the part. So this semester I have opera rehearsal almost every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday night. Sometimes it can be somewhat overwhelming but for the most part it's the best part of my day. I'm getting to sing a lot and train my voice even more and I also am getting a little experience in theater which I love. So that is definitely something that keeps me going throughout the week.

This weekend however has not been so good. I started feeling really sick Saturday evening and then the strangest thing happened. I had just walked back to Northeast (my residence hall) and was shivering cause I was so cold and at this point I had a fever. And then my throat actually closed or something because there was about a 20 second time period where I couldn't breathe at all. So I called mom and she told me I should definitely go to the ER. At this point I had a fever somewhere around 103 degrees. So I went to the ER and waited for 3 hours to be seen by a doctor but at this point all I wanted to do was sleep. So I came back and slept in my friend Hannah's room in case I got really sick again. Then today I went to UrgentCare and waited for two hours before I got taken to an exam room. According to some people though that's not all that bad but I guess with dad being a doctor I'm not used to waiting at all so I'm a little impatient when it comes to that. But the doctor said I have tonsillitis and a respiratory infection. I was actually kind of relieved to hear that because he thought it may be the flu again and I have already had that plenty for this year. So my throat is really sore but my fever has broken finally and the medicine is already helping me with the aching. I hope to make it to all of my classes tomorrow but I'm not sure if I will be able to or not.

Well that's about all of the update I have for now. There is never a dull moment in my life, but I don't know what I would do if there were one. :)
